Expert Series: Creating Proficiency Scales to Guide Instruction and Assessments

The Expert (Digging Deep) Series for Creating Proficiency Scales to Guide Instruction and Assessments / Structures for Bodies of Evidence Consistent with Flexible Pathways for Meeting PBGR include two full-day session with nationally recognized Proficiency-Based Learning experts who share stories of the work being completed across the country, including models of effective practices. Participants will use examples and protocols to collaboratively:

  1. Develop proficiency scales for a proficiency statement that provides both coherence of learning expectations and comparability of assessments and assessment types,
  2. Analyze the technical quality of PBGR assessment tasks and rubrics,
  3. Explore pre-mid-post assessment task shells consistent with proficiency scales, and
  4. Discuss implications for instruction and collecting evidence (foundational to advanced performance), and (5) Consider use of common vs. task specific rubrics in building a manageable “body of evidence” for each student.
